Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Bowl for Kid’s Sake

This month, Lohmiller Real Estate had the pleasure of participating in Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Bowl for Kid’s Sake fund raiser event. LRE and friends made up two teams of bowlers, who collected donations and sold raffle tickets leading up to the day of the event, in attempt to meet a team goal of raising $1,500 for our local Big Brothers Big Sisters. While we fell short of our goal, the event was a huge success. Our team brought in $1,310.00 with support of friends, families and local businesses. We had a great time bowling, and believe it or not, we even walked away with 2nd place trophies! We have the remainder of the year to bring in another $190 to meet our goal, and I’m confident it will be exceeded. Bowl For Kid’s Sake is an annual event, and we will continue to support this organization that is so important to the future of our community.

What is Big Brothers Big Sisters?

The vision: To provide professionally supported relationships: that all children may achieve success. Ours are relationships that change lives, for the better, forever.

A “Big” is a person who becomes a voluntary mentor to our youth. They are there to be a guide and a friend. This person is someone who is willing to take an average of about 4-8 hours a month to share some wisdom and life experience with a child, or a “Little.” All participants complete an application, undergo thorough screening and planned pairing. They will then receive a match and enter into a “Big” and “Little” relationship that is supported through the BBBS organization for continuous growth.

“Littles” are normally elementary to middle school aged girls and boys who live in the area, often with one parent or grandparent. The youth who participate are ready to be a friend, and the parent/guardian is willing to support the relationship. The “Littles” have fun and develop life skills through the one-on-one time with their “Bigs”.

Here are a few quick stats from children participating in 2015, showing true results!

99.8% of children are not pregnant

99.7% of the children are substance-abuse free

99.8% of the children are in school

99.2% are not involved with juvenile court

99% have developed critical life skills, including making academic progress

98% reported improved self- esteem

97% reported improvement in caring for others and their community

95% reported improved social competence

So, THANK YOU, to all our friends and family for helping us support Big Brothers Big Sisters. We ARE making a difference!
